Starting a Computer

To start a computer, follow this steps:

step 1. Turn on the main power switch.

step 2. Switch on the UPS button.

step 3. Switch on the CPU button.

step 4. Switch on the monitor button and wait for sometime.

factbot: the sequence of actions done by computer when it is switched on is called startup. This is also known as booting.

after sometime, you will find a screen on the monitor. The first display screen that appears on starting a computer is known as desktop. Just like you place a pen stand, a calendar and a clock on the top of your study table. Similarly, frequently used things are placed on a computer desktop.

the desktop consist of:

• icon
• taskbar

icons: the small picture on the desktop are called icons. To open this icons, double click on the them. this PC and recycle bin or the most common icon on the desktop.

taskbar: a long horizontal bar at the bottom of the screen is known as a Taskbar. It contains a start button in the left most corner of the taskbar. When you click on this button, a list of options or program appears this list is known as start menu.

Shutting down a computer

if you have finished using the computer, you should shut it down to save electricity. The action of closing all the activities and turning the computer off is called Shut Down.

To shut down a computer, follow these steps:

step1. Click on the Start Button.

step 2. Click on the Power Button.

step 3. Select the Shut down option.

Now, wait for some time till the computer shut down automatically.

step 4. The light on the CPU is off now. Let us switch off the monitor too.

step 5. Now, switch off the UPS button.

step 6. Finally, switch off the power supply button.
